The main objective of the park is to provide protection for a large area of Tropical Rain Forest in pristine condition where there is a great diversity of plants and animals, many of them endangered.
The area is very ravine which makes it necessary to maintain the forest cover to prevent the rapid erosion caused by heavy rains.
Presents high biodiversity due to its physiographic and climatic characteristics and suitble conditions for the establishment of a wide number of flora and fauna, many of them rare.
It is also an area that has a high water production, of vital interest to supply potable water to neighboring communities and a great historical value because there is still an indigenous group with important population.
