Location

It is located in the Cordillera de Talamanca, about 20 km northwest of San Isidro de El General.

Description

Inside the park is located the country's highest mountain and the second highest in Central America, Chirripó Hill of 3.820m above sea level.

The upper reaches have the best panoramic view of the country. On a clear day you can see the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

There are frequent strong winds, frost drizzles and abrupt changes in temperature, so much so that the lowest recorded in the Chirripo and in the country, was -9 degrees centigrade.

Visitors must walk between 8 and 12 hours to reach the Refuge Creston. The ascent is so hard that many people usually prepare themselves physically before climbing. The best time to do that is between December and May during the dry season, you can also go between June and November but isn't recommended due to frost rains.

If you want to camp, you can do it near of Cerro Uran.

To enter the park is recommended to make reservations at least three months in advance but is not absolutely necessary, can go without reservation and with good luck finding puedrá quota. To reserve call the park office at number +506 2771-3155

Go prepared for cold weather with chances of rain, even in dry season.
