Las Baulas National Marine Park is one of the most important for spawning of the leatherback turtle (spanish: Tortuga Baula). Every year thousands of turtles come to lay eggs on the beaches this park protects. The leatherback is the world's largest living turtle and gets to weigh up to 500 kg. Due to poaching of their eggs and destruction of their habitat on the beaches where they nest, their number has fallen dramatically in recent years and has been included list of endangered species. This park was created especially for their protection also has been included in the List of Wetlands of International Importance Ramsar because of mangroves that there exist, including the Estero de Tamarindo which is the largest mangrove estuary in Latin America. There have been nearly 57 species of birds including the roseate spoonbill. These mangroves are important habitats for waterfowl and many different marine and terrestrial species.
There are organizations that offer tours through the estuary in which you can see many birds and other animals, including crocodiles.
Undoubtedly, the main attraction of Las Baulas National Marine Park, is the spawning of the leatherback turtle. During the arrival of this reptile, you can take a night tour to the beach where you will see these amazing animals while lay their eggs. For this, we recommend visiting the park in the season that runs from September until March, during which the leatherback visits the beaches of the park.
Also, you can enjoy its beautiful beaches Carbon, Ventanas, Grande and Langosta where you can sunbathe, surf,practice snorkelling and enjoy the beautiful landscapes.
The park has facilities like drinking water, restrooms, trails and also is near the towns of Playa Grande and Tamarindo where you can find all the facilities that tourists want. - Map

Los adultos son negros con el lomo pardo oscuro o rubio.Un congo masculino pesa de 6 a 7 Kg y las hembras de 4 a 5 Kg.

En el año 2007 se me presentó la oportunidad de hacer mi prática de Turismo Ecológico en el Parque Las Baulas, solo puedo decirles que es una experiencia inolvidable, cuando se está cerca de una tortuga es cuando entendemos porque debemos protegerlas; haber estado en el parque es algo que motivó mi vida y aprendida muchas cosas nuevas. Si tienen la oportunidad de ir no la desaprovechen.

Hola,
Hace 3 anos mis amigas, Milena, Judith y Ana Victoria tambien realizaron la practica supervisada en el Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas, ellas al igual que Estibaliz -a quien tambien conozco- disfrutaron muchisimo el tiempo que pasaron alli.
Los funcionarios, guardaparques y demas personal fueron muy atentos con ellas, les ensenaron bastante. Ellas realmente aprendieron el valor que tiene esta especie en nuestro pais y conservan un lindo recuerdo del lugar.
Ojala muchos otros jovenes tenga la oportunidad de vivir esta experiencia y de transmitirla a otras personas. Protejamos el ambiente y cuidemos de esta bella especie que tanta ayuda necesita de nosotros :)

Cuando estaba en el cole tuve la experiencia de hacer mi practica supervisada con mi mejor amiga karen y la verdad fue una de las mejores de mi vida, ademas de que amo la naturaleza la experiencia de ver a una tortuga tan grande desovando fue indescriptible, las personas que conoci en ese lugar son expcionales, las cosas que me enseñaron nunca las voy a olvidar maracaron mi vida y en mi corazon existe un gran espacio para todos ellos, espero con toda mi alma que este gobierno ayude mas a la protección de este parque por que.. Que seria de Playa Grande?, que sería de Tamarindo y que seria de Costa Rica sin este sintio de anidación de las magnificas tortugas baulas? Espero que tambien sepan valorar todo eso las personas que visitan el parque y las que trabajan para centros de protección y felicito a todos y todas los que luchan por proteger las verdaderas riquezas que tiene nuetro país
