Cartago

Cartago was the colonial capital of Costa Rica until 1823 when the capital was moved to San Jose. It is characterized by its colonial buildings which even today are very common to find throughout the province. Cartago is located in the Basilica of Our Lady of Los Angeles.

The topography is formed by two mountain ranges: the Central, where can be found the Turrialba volcano and the Irazu volcano, the highest in the country, and the Cordillera de Talamanca, which highlights the highest peak in Costa Rica, Chirripó at 3819 meters above sea level.

Cartago, in addition to charming ancient peoples, also have beautiful and varied national parks
